Root Flame

Watercolour

Watercolour on paper

"Root Flame" places the viewer directly beneath a tropical canopy mid-eruption. A dense, encrusted trunk anchors the center, textured, pitted, and alive, from which bold arcs of scarlet sweep outward like unfurling fronds or tongues of fire. Around them, lime greens and sky blues wash freely across the canvas, threaded through with thin drips of dark green and branching networks of amber and rust. The palette is electric: saturated primaries in constant tension with the looser, more lyrical background washes. The work sits somewhere between the botanical and the mythological, a jungle seen through fever, or a world still in the process of being made.
