The Crack

Acrylic

Acrylic on canvas

White tears itself open against the dark. The form sprawls diagonally; part lightning bolt, part broken glacier, part the kind of crack that appears in ice just before it gives way completely. There's something anatomical about it too: branching, forking, the way a system of veins or roots spreads when it has nowhere left to go but outward.
